PLANNING-INITIAL IDEAS

The planning linked directly with the final product of a music video, I already know that I want to get away from obvious mainstream sound/visuals. I chose to do this in an attempt to gain listeners by offering something more truthfully 'new'. The countless advertisments for music albulms on platforms such as Spotify always claim to be 'new' but I would protest, in the case of the mainstream bands in the charts, it is very rarely a totally new sound and approach by artists. Of corse artists wish to appeal to particualr audiences, as we have explored, yet I feel we as consumers are limiting ourselves by listening to mainstream and the 'familiar' at all times.
EXPLORATION of NEW GENRE brings thousands to share music via social media as we have discovered. I want to really push against the temptation to REMAIN COMFORTABLE with our music. I hope to use intertexuality to increase the size of my audience in their recognition of brand/image.
I hope to conform somewhat to the indie music video conventions where I see slick photography and film combined with thought provoking content which is usually unpredictable. This is in contrast to such conventions as the R&B video, whereby the audience EXPECTS to see the objectification of women, exploring the concept of voyerism, as well as celebrating materialism and a hedonistic existence.

As I explored Mulvey's Male Gaze Theory, it led me to contemplate branding and the process of creating a brand around an artist as a possible topic for my video.
